Introduction: I wanted to do the best buy guide of a desktop game system, from high-quality parts and a balanced fair price. There are many reviews on tech sites of systems $2000+ to play games in 1440p, that is definitely not true anymore.

I have been building computer systems for 20+ years and learned a lot down the road. Here in this best buy guide, I show you what I would build for a customer. I will not lower myself to cheaper parts, because in the end, it will hunt you down.

Down here I show you that you can build a complete gamer PC for under a $1000, that can run most games in 1440p with all settings on max!

Best Buy Guide of March 2020

This 6 Core 12 Threads AMD Ryzen CPU is a steal for this price. The price is $174.97 as of today. You can overclock this CPU to about 4GHZ stable with a good cooler. The Stock Wraith cooler is not really made for overclocking, I’d recommend to leave it at stock speed. This processor also supports PCIe 4.0 with the motherboard. Stick to this one instead of the 3600x is a 95watt TDP it runs hotter compared to this one which is 65watt TDP and you get to keep the $30 for only 1-3% performance loss. For $174.97 its a great performer, and bang for the bucks.

This ASUS TUF GAMING X570 Plus motherboard has tons of great features and is rock solid stable, ASUS is known to be high quality and they do choose the best capacitors and HQ PCB for their products. Just need good stable RAM for a nice price, 16GB is the minimum these days for hard work. The advertised 3000MHZ and 3200MHZ is overclocked speeds. The standard speed is 2400MHZ which is still pretty fast. I personally prefer stability over performance. Still, these sticks offer the option to overclock if you need the extra boost. These are great sticks for $74.99.

If it comes to storage I choose for the best, and that is Samsung. Samsung is far ahead in the game of solid-state drive. And every test Samsung is the first. Support is top notch too and their warranty is top class. It’s a great price for this M.2. This is the older generation that goes for $87.99 for 500GB of storage. This SSD drive is obsolete but still the fastest SSD on the market as of today.

Samsung (MZ-V7E500BW) 970 EVO SSD 500GB – M.2 NVMe – $87.99

Want to play HD games in the highest settings but don’t want to spend a $1000, then this is the card you need, amazing performance with the latest technology like PCIe4 support which will be available with this video card. it has 6GB of GDDR6 memory, and has support for DirectX12 and OpenGL 4.5 support and holds up to 4 displays. I started building systems and the number one part I never save money on is the power supply. The system needs a constant stream of stable power to operate efficiently, but I also want to have sufficient headroom and flexibility and it has to be quiet!. That is exactly what this German engineered powerful and flexible be quiet! the power supply offers. And on top of that, they offer a 5-year manufacturer warranty on the power supply. It’s a great 80 Plus Gold power supply for only $69.90.

If you plan to overclock you might want a more powerful 600-watt power supply instead.

Three things are important to me when it comes to choosing the right computer case. The build quality, and cooling, and 5.25 bays. I don’t care much about the flashy lights and bling bling. I just need to have a flexible and functional computer case. This tower offers all this and on top of that, it comes with two case fans, cable management, and expandability. It also has two front-panel USB 3 ports and audio ports. This case goes for $64.99 and is worth every penny. The only time you will need a tool is to install the motherboard.

I hope you enjoyed this best buy guide of March 2020 and that you enjoy building your own computer system.

The total price for this computer is $907.82, I can go lower to 600, but this will play almost all games in 1440p with decent performance. This system will last you for a while. Most components are future proof for the next couple of years. You can adjust this configuration to your liking. I tried to get a balanced system together, price/performance/quality, and the latest technology that is available today.
